Overspending at Disney

If there’s one thing that Disney’s good at, it’s getting people to spend money.

Pins, also known as hundreds of dollars of souvenirs.

After spending an embarrassing amount of money on our first trip to Disney together (so embarrassing that you get no details), Kevin and I came up with a system to keep it from happening again.

Writer in the World

I’ve been traveling with family since Friday. We’re on a tour of the Southwest to celebrate my mom’s 60th birthday. (Happy birthday Mom!)

So far we’ve been to Vegas (where I turned 20$ into 43$ and called it a day), the Hoover Dam (big and kind of dull), and a town called Williams in Arizona that was surprisingly interesting for a small town (and had the best mac and cheese I’ve had in ages).

Yesterday we drove to the big destination of the trip: the Grand Canyon. And I have to say, I think I’m a fan.

On the road again

This week is the traditional Carnan family vacation in the Shenandoah.  We’ll be spending the week at Shrinemont, where they feed you three times a day and the rest of the hours are your own.  Until recently it didn’t have cell phone service or wifi, and even now those are pretty spotty.

Sounds like the perfect writer’s retreat to me!
