Welcome back to That Time of Year, where I tell you about some of my favorite charities.

First up, GiveDirectly.

GiveDirectly is Kevin’s favorite charity. Their premise is simple: you give them money, they give money to people in need. Because as study after study shows, the single best thing you can do to help someone who’s struggling is give them money and let them get on with it. (Their About page explains it in more detail.)

As of this writing, they have programs in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Liberia, Malawi, the Congo, Morocco, and the U.S. In addition to their charity, they do a lot of research to make sure their impact is everything it can be.

I hadn’t thought much about it until recently, but GiveDirectly really is something special.
