With MISTI coming up my friends are all in a whirl, planning their merch for Artist Alley and finalizing their cosplay plans.  About a week ago it occurred to me that I should probably start doing that too.

See, the stars have aligned perfectly for a cosplay opportunity.  I always go as Tonks, because duh, and I just got a (daring for me) haircut that makes that costume even more perfect.  I’m rooming with a friend, who is going as Teddy, complete with the turquoise hair.  And Kevin, dearest of husbands, has consented to dress as Lupin.  Do you see where I’m going with this?

Of course, now I have to figure out how to make that happen and I’ve never actually done it before.  I asked my Teddy friend how to organize a photoshoot and they said “Well, it depends on what you want.”

Off to google I go!

• The first thing I found was this “Posing for Beginners” guide.  While there are occasions when it drives me nuts that someone talks to me like a complete noob, this is not one of them.  Yes, please, tell me where to put my hands and how to do group poses.  I think what I’m getting is that I need to do some practicing in a mirror.
• Thing two was family poses.  Since this is going to be a “family” photoshoot, I figured I should look up what real family photoshoots look like.  Since my friend isn’t a literal baby, most of the guides I found were basically useless.  But this one has some interesting poses that I think might be promising.
• According to my reading, I also need to figure out where the pictures should be taken.  I suspect I won’t be able to figure out that out until I’m at MISTI, since I don’t have Laconia memorized.  (Yet.)
• Possibly the most important bit: photographer.  While I do know a cosplay photographer, he’s not a Harry Potter fan, so he won’t be at MISTI, so that’s still up in the air.  (EDIT: Oh wait!  I realized I know a photographer.  Of course, she’s never done a cosplay shoot before either, but at least we’ll be learning together.)

As far as I can tell those are the crucial parts to a photoshoot.  I guess check back in a couple months and we’ll see how it went?
